Season Diary 4

Entry #4: Cup of Woe

The League cup is the one that has eluded us forever, how nice it would be to win it this year, or any year for that matter. In my lifetime we have been in the final twice, gubbed against Celtic in 2001 and gubbed even more v Hibs two seasons ago, oh that was sore, wounds I shan't attempt to reopen unless i am still typing away about a semi or a final appearance later this season. If we don't get that far i shall keep it to myself.

Tonight we have Aberdeen at home, i am reasonably confident because they are playing like cows and forgetting about our old firm problems we have started the season a flier, i am eagerly awaiting the papers tomorrow where Jimmy Calderwood bleats (see what i did there?) about missed chances and how Killie were lucky etc etc, but thats all a bit premature i suppose, its just nice to have a game so quick after the Celtic game, one where we can get ourselves back in gear as we have two away games coming up. i am however ill, started with a sore throat but its more lethargy than anything. I am placing the blame firmly at the feet of the TV commentator on Saturday afternoon, who told me that Lee Westwood was suffering from slight Tonsilitis, (Ryder Cup weekend) well that is enough for me to catch it i am afraid, so thats what i am blaming. Now i am not telling anyone thats what i have as im no doctor but having had it plenty thats what it feels like. But i shall fight it because i cant afford to be ill. Also its probably just the cold.

But my "illness" which has drained me so (i am a world champion moaner, a profesional sick person, a real lapper up of any sort of sympathy) wont stop me from going tonight, cups are our best opportunity (probably only) of glory so we fans should lap it up i think. Although i have found myself casting my memory back to Dunfermline about four years ago at home when we had Gary Macdonald playing at full back and other players weirdly out of position or Hamilton last year where the players didnt seem to understand that concept. Not this year lads eh, strongest team possible and up for the cup should be our mantra. It might not sound like much but the Killie team that wins a trophy becomes legends. Why would you not want to be a legend?

Lastly, remembering MacDonald from that Dumfermline game reminds me that he will probably be playing tonight, returning players dont always bode well for us, it should be a good match up with him against our Manu but i hope its our man who comes out on top!
